Axel's take: 8.0/10

A dependable Churchgate base with good breakfast, but restrictive guest policies. an independent 3-star heritage hotel in Churchgate, scored for what it is.

Astoria is an independent 3-star heritage hotel whose strongest selling point is its Churchgate location, within walking distance of Marine Drive. We'd pick it for a practical South Mumbai stay rather than luxury. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, clean rooms and helpful staff, with several highlighting particularly thoughtful service. Larger rooms also earn good feedback for comfort.

The trade-offs are uneven room impressions and unusually restrictive policies. Some guests describe tired furnishings, while others report updated, comfortable interiors; don't expect consistently fresh design. More importantly, Booking.com requests proof of marriage, MakeMyTrip excludes unmarried couples and local IDs, and recent Tripadvisor guests report restrictions on room visitors. We'd skip it if those rules affect your plans; otherwise, it's a solid, well-located choice.

  • Best for: South Mumbai business travelers; Sightseers prioritizing location; Travelers who appreciate a good breakfast

  • Watch out for: Marriage-proof and local-ID restrictions; Restrictions on room visitors; Room condition varies

  • Location: Convenient Churchgate base for trains, Marine Drive and South Mumbai sightseeing.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable; larger rooms receive praise, but furnishing impressions vary.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback is predominantly positive about room cleanliness.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn repeated praise, although some guests report rigid or discourteous policy enforcement.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, buffet breakfast, gym, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service are advertised.

  • Fees and surprises: Transfers and extra beds cost extra; parking listings conflict, so confirm directly before driving.
