#1 of 9 hotels in Colaba by Axel's take. Colaba is #2 of 9 places to stay in Mumbai. The best hotels in Colaba, ranked · Where to stay in Mumbai

Axel's take: 9.1/10

A strong luxury pick for Colaba, with standout hospitality and some crowded public spaces. a five-star seafront tower adjoining Mumbai’s historic Taj Mahal Palace, scored for what it is.

Taj Mahal Tower is a five-star seafront hotel adjoining the historic Palace, not a room in the heritage building itself. We'd choose it for attentive hospitality, the Gateway of India location and access to the Taj complex’s restaurants, outdoor pool and spa. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable rooms and meticulous housekeeping; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort ratings reinforce that picture. A sea-facing room makes the most of the setting.

The trade-off is bustle rather than seclusion. Guests describe crowded entrances and busy breakfasts, with service occasionally slowing under pressure. Some also find Tower rooms small for a luxury stay. We'd skip it if generous room dimensions, heritage interiors or quiet public spaces are essential; otherwise, it delivers convincingly on the things that matter.

  • Best for: first-time visitors exploring Colaba; couples wanting sea views; travelers who prioritize attentive service

  • Watch out for: Tower rooms are not heritage Palace rooms; crowded entrances and peak-time breakfasts; some rooms feel compact for the class

  • Location: Opposite the Gateway of India, with Colaba shopping and sights close by.

  • Rooms: Comfort earns strong praise; choose sea-facing deliberately, and check space requirements.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

  • Service: Warm, attentive staff are the clearest strength, though busy periods can bring delays.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, spa, 24-hour gym and extensive dining within the Taj complex.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; check whether breakfast is included in your booking.
