Axel's take: 8.7/10

Strong service and comfortable rooms make this lively luxury hotel more than a scene. a design-led luxury hotel between downtown and Old Montreal, scored for what it is.

W Montreal is a design-led luxury hotel on Square Victoria, and it's a strong pick for travelers who want attentive service alongside cocktails and city exploring. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, spacious rooms and cleanliness; comfortable beds also earn compliments. The location makes both downtown and Old Montreal easy to explore, with the metro close by.

The trade-off is atmosphere rather than unreliable basics: the lobby can feel nightclub-like, and some guests mention noisy events, although many report quiet bedrooms. Open bathroom layouts in some rooms also sacrifice privacy. There's a gym, restaurant and cocktail bars, but no on-site pool or spa; Marriott instead points guests toward Bota Bota nearby. We'd skip it for a traditional, hushed luxury retreat or a pool-centered family stay.

• Best for: couples on a city break; cocktail and nightlife fans; travelers exploring without a car

• Watch out for: lively lobby and occasional event noise; limited bathroom privacy in some rooms; no on-site pool or spa

• Location: Walkable base between downtown and Old Montreal, with Square Victoria metro nearby.

• Rooms: Guests praise spacious, comfortable rooms; check bathroom separation before sharing.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent reviews, backed by Expedia's strong cleanliness rating.

• Service: Friendly staff and proactive concierge help stand out across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Gym, Tbsp. restaurant and cocktail bars; spa access is off-site, not an in-house facility.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pet cleaning cost extra; breakfast is generally an additional charge.
