Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong boutique pick for comfortable rooms and personal service, with off-site wellness facilities. a small, upscale 4-star boutique hotel near Sherbrooke métro, scored for what it is.

Hôtel St-Thomas is a 23-room, upscale 4-star boutique combining a heritage building with modern architecture. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer personal service to big-hotel bustle. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean, well-appointed rooms. The location near Sherbrooke métro and Rue Saint-Denis makes a good base for exploring restaurants and neighborhoods; selected rooms add balconies or generous terraces.

The main caveat is the amenities setup: the gym and spa are at separate Espace Thomas, not downstairs. Gym access is complimentary, but don’t assume spa treatments or thermal baths come with every booking. Breakfast earns plenty of praise, especially the coffee, though several guests find the buffet ordinary or limited. Some bathrooms lack useful counter space, and parking costs extra. We’d skip it if an on-site spa or extensive hotel facilities are essential.

• Best for: couples seeking a small boutique hotel; restaurant-focused city breaks; travelers exploring by foot and métro

• Watch out for: off-site gym and spa; breakfast variety divides guests; limited bathroom counter space in some rooms

• Location: Near Sherbrooke métro and Rue Saint-Denis restaurants, rather than in Old Montreal.

• Rooms: Comfortable modern rooms; balconies and terraces depend on category, and some bathrooms lack counter space.

• Cleanliness: Strong recent feedback overall, backed by high cleanliness ratings on Expedia and Trip.com.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the most consistent strength across recent guest reviews.

• Amenities: Café-bar, breakfast and room service on-site; complimentary gym access at separate Espace Thomas.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets incur charges; confirm whether your booking includes breakfast and thermal-bath access.
