Old Montreal character and warm service, with room location key to a quiet stay. A historic, upscale 4-star boutique hotel in Old Montreal, scored for what it is.

Hotel Place d’Armes is a historic 4-star boutique hotel spread across four 19th-century buildings in Old Montreal. It’s a strong pick for exploring on foot, with Notre-Dame Basilica and the metro nearby. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Brasserie 701, Kyo Bar Japonais and Rainspa give it more substance than a hotel trading only on its address.

The main trade-off is noise: several guests report late-night music from a club across the street, particularly in lower-floor rooms. Guests have also reported construction opposite the hotel in 2026; check its status and request a room away from both. The rooftop terrace is currently closed for the season, and valet parking costs extra. We’d choose it for a characterful city break, but light sleepers should be specific about room placement.

• Best for: Couples on a city break; Exploring Old Montreal on foot; Travelers who enjoy historic hotels

• Watch out for: Late-night club noise in some rooms; Construction reported across the street; Rooftop terrace closed for the season

• Location: Excellent Old Montreal base near Notre-Dame Basilica, restaurants and Place-d’Armes metro.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and characterful interiors; sizes vary, and street-facing rooms can be noisy.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major booking-site ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise, despite occasional reports of uneven problem handling.

• Amenities: Two restaurants, Rainspa hammam and a gym; the seasonal rooftop terrace is currently closed.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking and spa use cost extra; confirm nearby construction and room placement before arrival.
