Axel's take: 5.5/10

A convenient budget base, but upkeep and consistency fall short a basic 2-star budget hotel near Sherbrooke metro, scored for what it is.

La Residence du Voyageur is a basic 2-star hotel whose strongest asset is its location, a short walk from Sherbrooke metro. We'd consider it for a short, budget-first city break, but it falls below what even simple accommodation should reliably deliver. Recent Expedia guests include travelers praising clean rooms and helpful reception, alongside others reporting poor maintenance and unpleasant smells.

The trade-off is inconsistency: worn surroundings, variable room comfort and uneven problem handling recur across Expedia, Agoda and Tripadvisor. Renovation work was reported by an August 2026 guest; whether it has finished is unconfirmed. Confirm your room's condition and arrive before the listed 11 p.m. check-in cutoff. We'd skip it for a relaxing stay or if dependable cleanliness and service matter more than location.

• Best for: budget-first travelers comfortable with compromises; short stays using public transit

• Watch out for: inconsistent cleanliness and maintenance; renovation work reported in August 2026; check-in ends at 11 p.m.

• Location: Around four minutes on foot from Sherbrooke metro; location is the clearest strength.

• Rooms: Basic and sometimes small; recent guests disagree on comfort and report broken TVs and worn fittings.

• Cleanliness: Several recent guests praise clean rooms, but recurring complaints prevent a dependable recommendation.

• Service: Warm, accommodating reception earns praise, while communication and complaint handling draw repeated criticism.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and air conditioning are listed; elevator and parking information conflicts across sites, so confirm directly.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a security deposit and housekeeping charges; confirm these and the status of renovation work before booking.
