Good downtown value and generous space, but the rooms need updating. a no-frills 3-star downtown hotel with spacious studios and suites, scored for what it is.

Hotel Faubourg Montreal is a no-frills 3-star whose strongest selling points are space and location. It’s a good pick for travelers who want roomy accommodation within walking distance of Chinatown, Old Montreal and the entertainment district. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, generous room sizes and included hot breakfast. Full-size refrigerators and microwaves make leftovers and simple meals easier.

The trade-off is condition: recent guests on both sites describe tired carpets, aging furniture and bathrooms needing attention. Many report clean rooms, but recurring deep-cleaning complaints make consistency a concern. Air-conditioning noise and crowded breakfasts also crop up. Crucially, the kitchenettes do not come stocked with dishes or cookware, and parking costs extra unless included in your package. We'd skip it if fresh interiors or reliable self-catering facilities matter more than space and location.

• Best for: value-minded downtown sightseers; families wanting extra space; longer stays needing a fridge and microwave

• Watch out for: dated interiors and uneven cleaning; kitchenettes without dishes or cookware; parking charges and garage height restrictions

• Location: Walkable to Chinatown, Old Montreal and downtown attractions, with metro access nearby.

• Rooms: Generously sized studios and suites; worn furnishings and noisy air-conditioning recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but carpets and detailed cleaning receive repeated criticism.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are a consistent strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, Wi-Fi, gym and coin laundry; kitchenettes have full-size fridges and microwaves.

• Fees and surprises: Parking generally costs extra and has height limits; dishes and cookware are not standard.
