Axel's take: 8.4/10

Come for the rooftop pool and central location, not flawless four-star polish. a downtown 4-star convention hotel with rooftop gardens and a year-round outdoor pool, scored for what it is.

Hotel Bonaventure is a downtown 4-star convention hotel with a distinctive advantage: rooftop gardens and an outdoor pool heated year-round. It’s a strong pick for families, train arrivals and Bell Centre trips, with Central Station nearby. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort ratings reinforce that picture. The pool, hot tubs and sauna give it more leisure appeal than a typical business hotel.

The trade-off is uneven polish. Although the hotel advertises renovated Superior rooms, recent guests still describe worn areas and occasional maintenance shortcomings. Pool crowding is a recurring complaint, and conventions can make public spaces lively. Parking and breakfast generally cost extra. We’d skip it for a hushed boutique stay or consistently luxurious surroundings; for a practical city base with swimming built in, it delivers.

• Best for: families who will use the pool; travelers arriving by train; Bell Centre concert and hockey trips

• Watch out for: crowded pool at busy times; uneven room and maintenance standards; parking and breakfast extras

• Location: Convenient downtown base near Central Station, the metro and Bell Centre.

• Rooms: Comfortable and often spacious; renovated Superior rooms are advertised, but guests still report some wear.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Helpful staff earn consistent praise, with occasional service lapses rather than uniformly polished delivery.

• Amenities: Year-round heated outdoor pool, rooftop gardens, hot tubs, sauna, gym and on-site dining.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast generally cost extra; the underground garage excludes vehicles over six feet tall.
