Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Griffintown base that puts clean rooms and comfortable beds before extras. a design-forward 3-star in Griffintown, scored for what it is.

Hôtel Alt Montréal is a design-forward 3-star from Germain Hotels, and we'd pick it for a comfortable city stay without luxury-hotel fuss. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff; recent Tripadvisor reviews largely reinforce those strengths. Griffintown's restaurants and the Lachine Canal are close, while Old Montréal and downtown are walkable rather than right outside the door.

The trade-off is a deliberately pared-back experience. Breakfast and underground parking cost extra, and the hotel confirms its seventh-floor terrace is for private group bookings—not a general guest hangout. Some recent guests also flag missing in-room fridges and showers that splash onto bathroom floors. It's a strong pick for travelers who spend their days exploring; we'd skip it if extensive facilities or an Old Montréal doorstep matter most.

• Best for: couples on city breaks; business travelers; walkers exploring Griffintown

• Watch out for: breakfast and parking cost extra; terrace reserved for private groups; confirm fridge availability if essential

• Location: Near Griffintown restaurants and the canal; expect a walk to downtown and Old Montréal.

• Rooms: Modern, comfortable and minimalist; standard queen rooms are 23 square metres.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff receive consistent praise, including for resolving problems.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour gym and lobby coffee; terrace access is limited to private group bookings.

• Fees and surprises: Paid third-party underground parking and EV charging; breakfast is extra unless included in your package.
