#9 of 9 hotels in Downtown by Axel's take. Downtown is #2 of 6 places to stay in Montreal. The best hotels in Downtown, ranked · Where to stay in Montreal

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A spacious downtown standby, now closed for redevelopment. a closed downtown 4-star business hotel awaiting redevelopment, scored for what it is.

Delta Montreal was a full-service 4-star business hotel whose strongest selling points were generous rooms and a convenient downtown location near McGill and Place des Arts. Before closure, Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praised helpful staff, room size and generally good cleanliness. Our verdict on that operation: a practical, comfortable base, but increasingly tired rather than polished.

The decisive update is that the hotel welcomed its final guests on September 29, 2026, according to La Tribune de l’Hôtellerie, and closed for demolition and redevelopment. Its still-visible Marriott page should not be mistaken for confirmation that it operates. Late guest reviews also describe buckled carpets, worn balconies and maintenance shortcomings. The score reflects the former hotel, not its proposed replacement. Anyone planning a stay now should choose elsewhere; no opening date or brand has been announced for the future hotel.

  • Best for: Previously: downtown business travelers; Previously: families wanting larger rooms

  • Watch out for: Closed since September 29, 2026; Existing building slated for demolition; Replacement hotel has no announced opening date

  • Location: Downtown, between McGill and Place des Arts; guests consistently praised the convenience.

  • Rooms: Previously spacious and comfortable, but late reviews repeatedly flagged worn carpets and balconies.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated before closure; isolated complaints did not outweigh the positive overall picture.

  • Service: Helpful staff were a recurring strength across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com.

  • Amenities: The former pool, fitness facilities, restaurant and meeting rooms are not available for current stays.

  • Fees and surprises: The key surprise is closure: online hotel descriptions remain visible despite redevelopment plans.
