#3 of 9 hotels in Porta Nuova & Isola by Axel's take. Porta Nuova & Isola is #6 of 11 places to stay in Milan. The best hotels in Porta Nuova & Isola, ranked · Where to stay in Milan

Axel's take: 8.7/10

Old-school Milanese luxury with excellent service, but a major restoration is approaching. a traditional five-star grand hotel on Piazza della Repubblica, scored for what it is.

Principe di Savoia is a traditional five-star grand hotel, strongest on attentive service, spacious rooms and old-school atmosphere. We'd choose it for a polished, full-service stay rather than cutting-edge design. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff, comfortable beds and cleanliness; the top-floor indoor pool and gym add substance to the luxury billing. Repubblica metro is close, and a complimentary scheduled shuttle helps bridge the distance to the historic centre.

The trade-off is age: several recent Expedia guests describe tired interiors or upkeep that falls short of modern luxury expectations. Dining and drinks are expensive, and this isn't the doorstep-of-the-Duomo location some visitors want. Crucially, Dorchester Collection confirms a full restoration closure from January 1, 2027, with reopening expected in 2029. Skip it for contemporary interiors or stays during that closure.

Best for: travelers who prefer traditional luxury; couples wanting attentive service; city breaks with pool and spa time
Watch out for: Restoration closure from January 1, 2027; reopening expected in 2029; Some interiors feel tired for the class; Historic centre requires a walk or transport
Location: Near Repubblica metro and convenient for Centrale; a scheduled complimentary shuttle serves the centre.
Rooms: Spacious, classically furnished and generally comfortable, though recent guests flag aging interiors.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia, despite isolated negative reports.
Service: Attentive, professional staff are a recurring highlight; occasional lapses do not dominate feedback.
Amenities: Club 10 has an indoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room and spa; Acanto and Principe Bar round out the offering.
Fees and surprises: Parking, pets and breakfast can cost extra; Expedia also lists a service fee. Full restoration closure begins January 1, 2027.
