#3 of 7 hotels in South Yarra & Prahran by Axel's take. South Yarra & Prahran is #6 of 9 places to stay in Melbourne. The best hotels in South Yarra & Prahran, ranked · Where to stay in Melbourne

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A practical South Yarra base with generous space, but not full-service polish. a small 4-star apartment hotel in a converted South Yarra apartment block, scored for what it is.

SoYa is a small 4-star apartment hotel in a converted 1960s block, and we'd choose it for practical comforts rather than luxury. Proper kitchens, separate living space and laundry facilities make it a strong pick for longer stays. South Yarra station, cafes and restaurants are close by. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the space, cleanliness and helpful staff; the overall feedback remains strongly positive.

The older building brings trade-offs: some kitchens and bathrooms look tired, there's no lift, and several guests report train or nearby pub noise, though others find their apartments quiet. Reception isn't staffed around the clock, so arrange late arrivals ahead. Parking costs extra and needs booking. We'd skip it if you need step-free access, reliably quiet nights or round-the-clock hotel service.

  • Best for: longer stays with self-catering; couples wanting extra space; travelers using public transport

  • Watch out for: stairs and no lift; variable train and pub noise; limited reception hours

  • Location: Close to South Yarra station, cafes and restaurants; convenient for exploring without a car.

  • Rooms: Spacious apartment layouts and comfortable beds; some kitchens and bathrooms show their age.

  • Cleanliness: Recent booking-site feedback is predominantly positive about cleanliness.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, but reception is limited and some recent Tripadvisor guests report disputes.

  • Amenities: Kitchens, laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi favor independent stays over full-service hotel comforts.

  • Fees and surprises: Paid parking requires booking; designated pet rooms require advance confirmation, a surcharge and a bond.
