Axel's take: 8.0/10
A strong budget base for Melbourne, provided you can live with tight rooms. A simple, budget-friendly city hotel near Southern Cross station, scored for what it is.
Best Western Melbourne City is a simple, budget-friendly city hotel, and a strong pick for spending more time exploring than indoors. Southern Cross station, trams and the convention centre are close by. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The hotel's Stubby café-bar and rooftop sundeck add useful extras without changing its no-frills character.
Space is the main compromise: the Shoebox name is fair warning, and narrow shower entrances recur in reviews. Some rooms have limited daylight, while road and railway noise depends on position. We'd skip the smallest categories if you need room for luggage or easy bathroom access. Parking is paid and off-site. For future trips, Expedia lists a closure from April 1 through July 31, 2027, subject to change; confirm directly.
