Axel's take: 7.0/10

Good-value privacy near the MCG, but noise and shared facilities demand compromise. A basic budget homestay with private rooms and shared bathrooms, scored for what it is.

This is a budget homestay with private bedrooms and shared bathrooms, not a conventional hotel. It's a reasonable pick for travelers who want their own room without spending much, particularly for the MCG or easy train access from West Richmond station. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location, value and helpful on-site staff. A communal kitchen and courtyard add useful space beyond the bare-bones bedrooms.

The biggest compromise is sleep: road and railway noise recur across reviews, alongside complaints about hard beds and tired furnishings. Cleanliness feedback is mostly positive, but shared-bathroom upkeep and staff interactions aren't consistently praised. Some 2026 guests also report slow or interrupted hot water and a refundable room-key deposit. We'd skip it if quiet nights, an ensuite or predictable hotel-style service matter more than keeping costs down.

  • Best for: Solo travelers on a tight budget; MCG visitors; Travelers comfortable with shared facilities

  • Watch out for: Road and railway noise; Shared bathrooms and basic beds; Reported room-key deposit

  • Location: Close to West Richmond station and walkable to the MCG; transport convenience comes with noise.

  • Rooms: Simple double rooms with a desk, fan and clothes rack; furnishings are dated and bed comfort divides guests.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly praised on Booking.com and Expedia, with some inconsistent shared-bathroom upkeep reported.

  • Service: Many guests praise helpful on-site staff, though unfriendly interactions recur in a minority of reviews.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchen, lounge, courtyard and free Wi-Fi; some 2026 reviews mention hot-water delays or interruptions.

  • Fees and surprises: The official site says meals are not included and private parking costs extra; recent guests report a refundable room-key deposit.
