#4 of 7 hotels in East Melbourne & Richmond by Axel's take. East Melbourne & Richmond is #5 of 9 places to stay in Melbourne. The best hotels in East Melbourne & Richmond, ranked · Where to stay in Melbourne

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A practical MCG base with helpful staff, but parking needs planning. A small 4-star serviced-apartment hotel near the MCG, scored for what it is.

Quest East Melbourne is a small 4-star serviced-apartment hotel: a strong pick for an MCG match or Melbourne Park event rather than a full-service hotel break. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the location and helpful staff, with broadly positive cleanliness feedback. Kitchenettes make self-catering straightforward, and the rooftop terrace adds somewhere to unwind beyond your room.

The trade-offs are an older building and some uneven upkeep: several Tripadvisor guests describe tired carpets or bathroom issues, although these complaints don’t dominate the overall picture. Expedia and Trip.com guests also mention intrusive bathroom fans. Parking is limited, charged and may be off-site; confirm arrangements and vehicle restrictions before arriving. Reception isn’t round-the-clock, so arrange late arrival and luggage collection directly. We’d skip it if polished interiors, guaranteed parking or full hotel service matter most.

  • Best for: MCG and Melbourne Park eventgoers; Self-catering city breaks; Longer stays near East Melbourne hospitals

  • Watch out for: Limited paid parking, sometimes off-site; Older interiors and occasional maintenance complaints; Limited reception hours

  • Location: Walkable to the MCG, with nearby trams and trains for reaching the city.

  • Rooms: Well-equipped studios; some guests report tired carpets, bathroom faults or noisy fans.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly praised across sites, with a minority of detailed housekeeping complaints on Tripadvisor.

  • Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength; confirm after-hours access and luggage arrangements.

  • Amenities: Kitchen facilities, free Wi-Fi, guest laundry and a rooftop terrace suit independent stays.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and needs confirmation; housekeeping excludes Sundays and public holidays.
