#3 of 3 hotels in St Kilda by Axel's take. St Kilda is #9 of 9 places to stay in Melbourne. The best hotels in St Kilda, ranked · Where to stay in Melbourne

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A comfortable St Kilda base, provided you can live with off-site check-in. a small, practical 4-star aparthotel in St Kilda, scored for what it is.

Crest on Park is a small, practical 4-star aparthotel rather than a full-service hotel. We'd pick it for a St Kilda stay where beach access, nearby cafés and self-catering matter more than hotel facilities. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and the location. Studios and apartments have cooking facilities; don't assume the standard king room does.

The biggest drawback is logistical: there's no on-site reception, and check-in and key collection happen at Crest on Barkly, 47 Barkly Street. Guests consistently find that inconvenient, particularly without a car. Parking is paid, spaces can be tight, and a security deposit applies. Upper floors are stairs-only, while some rooms are compact. It's good for independent travelers; we'd skip it if you need step-free access or staff immediately at hand.

  • Best for: couples exploring St Kilda; families booking self-catering apartments; independent longer-stay travelers

  • Watch out for: check-in at a different property; paid, sometimes tight parking; stairs-only upper floors

  • Location: Near St Kilda Beach, cafés and tram connections; better for a bayside stay than a CBD doorstep.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds draw praise; sizes vary, and cooking facilities depend on room category.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant pattern.

  • Service: Reception staff often earn praise, but the lack of on-site reception is a recurring frustration.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, coffee machines and self-service laundry; studios and apartments support self-catering.

  • Fees and surprises: Expect a security deposit and parking charges; collect keys at 47 Barkly Street, not Park Street.
