#8 of 9 hotels in Gueliz by Axel's take. Gueliz is #5 of 8 places to stay in Marrakech. The best hotels in Gueliz, ranked · Where to stay in Marrakech

Axel's take: 7.1/10

Traditional character and a handy location, but room standards vary. A budget 3-star in Guéliz with traditional Moroccan decor, scored for what it is.

Moroccan House is a budget 3-star in Guéliz, not an intimate medina riad. Its ornate Moroccan interiors give it more character than a basic chain hotel, and nearby restaurants make it a practical sightseeing base. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise the staff and location; several recent visitors also describe clean, spacious rooms. We'd consider it for a short, budget-conscious stay rather than a hotel-centered holiday.

The catch is consistency. Across sites, guests repeatedly mention tired bathrooms and maintenance faults, with some reporting unreliable air conditioning. Cleanliness receives more praise than criticism overall, but not every room meets the same standard. Breakfast divides opinion, and the courtyard pool gets limited sunshine. We'd skip it if dependable room condition, strong Wi-Fi or lounging by a sunny pool matters more than traditional decor.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious sightseers; Travelers who prefer Guéliz; Short stays with traditional character

  • Watch out for: Variable bathrooms and room maintenance; Weak Wi-Fi and mixed breakfast reviews; Limited sunshine around the pool

  • Location: Guéliz restaurants and shops nearby; Jemaa el-Fnaa is a taxi ride or a substantial walk away.

  • Rooms: Distinctive traditional decor, but recurring bathroom wear and occasional air-conditioning faults.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive ratings, with recent clean-room reports alongside some significant exceptions.

  • Service: Usually praised as friendly and helpful, though problem handling varies by staff member.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, restaurant and lift; Wi-Fi scores poorly with Booking.com guests.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax is payable locally; confirm breakfast inclusion and any charge for the room safe.
