Axel's take: 6.7/10

Come for the pool and location, not polished four-star comfort. An older 4-star pool-and-spa hotel in Hivernage, scored for what it is.

El Andalous is an older 4-star hotel in Hivernage whose strongest assets are its large outdoor pool, leafy grounds and convenient location near Menara Mall. We'd consider it for a relaxed city break if modern interiors aren't essential. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms, while the traditional Moroccan décor gives it more character than a generic business hotel.

The catch is inconsistent four-star delivery. Across sites, guests describe tired bathrooms and furnishings, maintenance niggles and uneven breakfast quality; Tripadvisor also brings up disorganized service. Street-facing rooms can be noisy, and the on-site nightclub is another consideration for light sleepers. Spa use costs extra, and gym access terms deserve checking. We'd skip it for a reliably quiet stay or a hotel where everything feels freshly maintained.

• Best for: Couples combining sightseeing and pool time; Travelers comfortable with older interiors

• Watch out for: Street and nightclub noise; Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Variable breakfast and service

• Location: Convenient Hivernage base near Menara Mall, outside the medina.

• Rooms: Comfortable for many guests, but furnishings and bathrooms need updating; request a quiet room.

• Cleanliness: Often praised in recent reviews, though complaints about bathrooms and dining-area cleanliness recur.

• Service: Many staff earn warm praise, but reception and room-service organization are inconsistent.

• Amenities: Outdoor and children's pools, three restaurants, hammam, spa and a basic gym.

• Fees and surprises: City tax is payable locally; spa use is extra, and gym access conditions should be confirmed.
