Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong central base, provided you choose your room carefully. a design-led 4-star city-centre hotel with compact rooms, scored for what it is.

YOTEL Manchester Deansgate is a design-led 4-star that works best as a comfortable city base rather than a luxury retreat. We'd pick it for short stays: the location makes shops, restaurants and theatres easy to reach, and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff, cleanliness and breakfast. The colourful Motley bar adds character, while shared coffee stations are a useful extra.

Room choice matters. Compact rooms start at just 13 square metres, and some categories have no windows; check the description rather than assuming daylight. Firm mattresses and occasional plumbing or neighbour noise also recur in reviews, although plenty of guests report sleeping well. We'd skip it if generous space, guaranteed quiet or traditional full-service luxury matters most. For a central weekend with those compromises understood, it's a very good pick.

• Best for: couples on short city breaks; theatre and nightlife trips; solo business travellers

• Watch out for: small rooms and windowless categories; firm mattresses and occasional plumbing noise; no on-site parking

• Location: Central Deansgate setting, with restaurants, shopping and theatres within walking distance.

• Rooms: Modern and space-efficient; Compact rooms are 13 square metres, and some categories lack windows.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across major sites, with clean rooms repeatedly praised.

• Service: Staff receive consistent praise; self-service check-in has reception support available.

• Amenities: Motley restaurant and bar, shared coffee stations, Wi-Fi and limited complimentary TRIB3 class places.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; dogs incur a fee, and parking is off-site.
