Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong central base for apartment space, with less service than five stars suggest. a luxury-rated aparthotel near Manchester Cathedral, scored for what it is.

CitySuites is a luxury-rated aparthotel whose strongest selling points are practical: proper kitchens, generously sized apartments and a central location near Manchester Cathedral, shopping and Victoria station. We'd choose it for a longer city break or family stay rather than traditional five-star pampering. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and breakfast; the indoor pool and gym add useful extras.

The main catch is the service model: standard housekeeping is not daily, and extra cleaning costs more. Breakfast service draws some complaints about delays, while paid parking is in the neighbouring Q-Park and needs coordination with reception. A few guests also report maintenance niggles, though these do not dominate the overall feedback. We'd skip it if daily room servicing and consistently polished luxury service matter more than space and self-catering.

• Best for: families wanting apartment space; longer city breaks; AO Arena and shopping trips

• Watch out for: no standard daily housekeeping; occasional breakfast-service delays; paid parking in neighbouring Q-Park

• Location: Excellent for walking to Manchester Cathedral, the Arndale, Victoria station and AO Arena.

• Rooms: Spacious, well-equipped apartments with kitchens; occasional maintenance complaints temper the luxury billing.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across major sites; limited housekeeping frequency is a separate consideration.

• Service: Staff are widely praised, but breakfast timing and occasional problem handling are less consistent.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, spa pool, gym and Embankment Kitchen; apartments support proper self-catering.

• Fees and surprises: Paid neighbouring parking, a city visitor charge and a card pre-authorisation; additional cleaning is chargeable.
