Axel's take: 9.0/10

A strong central choice for kitchen-equipped stays, with a few compact-room quirks. a modern 4-star aparthotel beside St Peter’s Square, scored for what it is.

Wilde is a modern 4-star aparthotel beside St Peter’s Square, and a strong pick for travelers who want hotel comfort with their own kitchen. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff, with excellent overall ratings on both sites. The tram is close, much of central Manchester is walkable, and the upper-floor bar adds city views. We’d particularly choose it for a self-catering city break.

The compromises are mostly about layout and service style. Some studios are compact, with high beds pushed against a wall; check the room configuration if easy access matters. Reception starts on the ninth floor, and guests sometimes mention lift waits. Housekeeping isn’t daily, and additional cleans cost extra. We’d skip it if you want a spacious conventional hotel room with daily servicing.

• Best for: self-catering city breaks; business travelers; sightseeing without a car

• Watch out for: compact studios and awkward bed access; occasional lift waits; no daily housekeeping

• Location: Beside St Peter’s Square, convenient for trams, galleries, theatres and central Manchester.

• Rooms: Well-equipped kitchens and comfortable beds; some studios have tight layouts and high, wall-side beds.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Staff receive repeated praise for friendly, helpful welcomes.

• Amenities: City-view bar, breakfast options, 24-hour gym, guest laundry and round-the-clock reception.

• Fees and surprises: City visitor tax applies; extra cleans cost more, breakfast may be extra, and there is no on-site parking.
