#5 of 5 hotels in Deansgate & Spinningfields by Axel's take. Deansgate & Spinningfields is #2 of 7 places to stay in Manchester. The best hotels in Deansgate & Spinningfields, ranked · Where to stay in Manchester

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong budget base for central Manchester, with staff who make the difference. a no-frills budget chain hotel beside the Irwell, scored for what it is.

This no-frills budget hotel beside the Irwell is a strong pick for exploring central Manchester without paying for extras you won't use. Deansgate, shopping and the AO Arena are within walking distance. Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and welcoming staff; the breakfast team earns unusually consistent thanks. It's a practical base for a short city break, rather than somewhere to linger.

The trade-offs are basic fittings and uneven room condition: despite Travelodge advertising its newer room design, some guests still describe worn interiors. Several summer guests report rooms getting uncomfortably hot, even with fans. Parking is limited and chargeable, and Wi-Fi costs extra after the short free allowance. We'd skip it if reliable room cooling or guaranteed parking matters more than location and value.

  • Best for: budget-conscious city breakers; concertgoers; families on short stays

  • Watch out for: rooms can get hot in summer; limited paid parking; Wi-Fi charges after the free allowance

  • Location: Walkable for Deansgate, central shopping and the AO Arena.

  • Rooms: Simple and generally comfortable; some guests report worn fittings and overheating.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive reports, with occasional bathroom and carpet complaints rather than a dominant pattern.

  • Service: A clear strength, especially the welcoming reception and attentive breakfast staff.

  • Amenities: Bar café, breakfast, kettles, family rooms and lifts; straightforward rather than extensive.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and parking cost extra; Wi-Fi is free for only 30 minutes daily. Register your vehicle at reception.
