Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical budget base with helpful staff, easy tram access and stripped-back rooms. a no-frills 2-star hotel by Salford Quays, scored for what it is.

This no-frills 2-star is a good pick for a short, budget-conscious stay near Old Trafford or Salford Quays. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, convenient transport and value; recent Accor reviews largely echo that. Rooms are compact and basic, but cleanliness gets substantially more praise than criticism. We'd choose it as somewhere to sleep between outings, rather than somewhere to spend the day.

The compromises are worth understanding: the shower cubicle and bedroom sink offer less privacy than a conventional bathroom, and guests repeatedly mention the lack of an included kettle. Tram and road noise can disturb some rooms, although others report quiet nights. Breakfast is continental, and parking costs extra with spaces unreserved. We'd skip it for a longer stay if space, bathroom privacy or reliable quiet matter most.

• Best for: budget-conscious short stays; Old Trafford visitors; travelers using the tram

• Watch out for: tram and road noise in some rooms; compact rooms with limited bathroom privacy; parking and breakfast cost extra

• Location: Near Salford Quays tram stop, with convenient access to Old Trafford and city-centre transport.

• Rooms: Small, functional rooms; typical layouts put the sink in the bedroom, with a separate shower cubicle.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised across recent reviews, though occasional housekeeping lapses still appear.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and housekeeping staff are a consistent strength.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, vending machines and round-the-clock pizza; expect essentials rather than extensive facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Cashless hotel; third-party parking is paid and first come, first served; guests report kettle-hire charges.
