Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical Manchester base, provided you’re comfortable with genuinely budget rooms. a no-frills 2-star near New Islington tram stop, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills 2-star on the eastern edge of central Manchester: a good pick for a short stay rather than somewhere to linger. Piccadilly station is walkable, and nearby New Islington trams are useful for getting around. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise the staff, cleanliness and convenience; recent Accor reviews also frequently mention comfortable beds. It delivers the essentials, without much extra comfort or space.

The biggest compromise is the room layout: compact quarters, limited storage and a shower cubicle opening directly into the bedroom, which makes sharing awkward if you want privacy. Tripadvisor guests repeatedly flag the lack of an included kettle, while some recent guests report street or tram noise. Breakfast is continental and costs extra. We’d skip it for longer stays or if spacious rooms and bathroom privacy matter.

• Best for: budget-conscious short stays; concert and football trips; travelers using trains and trams

• Watch out for: compact rooms and limited shower privacy; some street and tram noise; kettle available only as an extra

• Location: Walkable from Piccadilly, with New Islington tram stop nearby; outside the central shopping core.

• Rooms: Basic, air-conditioned rooms with limited storage; the bedroom-facing shower is the main compromise.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across booking sites, though occasional recent housekeeping lapses are reported.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a recurring strength, despite some uneven recent experiences.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, snacks and vending machines; facilities focus on the basics.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, kettle hire and pets cost extra; parking is off-site, and Expedia lists a city visitor charge.
