Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical central base, with breakfast included but uneven upkeep. a no-frills 3-star city-centre hotel by Oxford Road station, scored for what it is.

This no-frills 3-star is a good pick for a short Manchester trip where location matters more than polish. Oxford Road station, the Palace Theatre and university buildings are close by, and included breakfast helps the value. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms; we'd choose it as a practical base rather than somewhere to spend much downtime.

The compromises are inconsistent upkeep and city-centre bustle. Recent Tripadvisor guests describe worn furnishings and bathroom maintenance problems, while several spring 2026 reviews across sites mention a broken lift and long waits. Breakfast can get crowded, and opinions on its quality vary. Ask for a higher room away from the street; we'd skip it if quiet nights and reliably polished rooms are priorities.

• Best for: theatregoers and concert visitors; university visitors; short city breaks by train

• Watch out for: street noise in lower front-facing rooms; uneven room and bathroom maintenance; reported lift delays and crowded breakfasts

• Location: Very handy for Oxford Road station, the Palace Theatre and the universities.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; some guests report worn furnishings and bathroom faults.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised, although recent reviews include some housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise; reception experiences are less consistent.

• Amenities: Breakfast and Wi-Fi included, plus a bar; no on-site pool.

• Fees and surprises: Paid off-site parking and a city accommodation charge; Expedia lists the property as cashless.
