Hotels in Madrida large, modern 4-star in a landmark building on Gran Vía
8.9/10
A strong central base with standout breakfasts and rooftop views, if you don't mind crowds.
Riu Plaza España is a large, modern 4-star in Madrid's landmark Edificio España, and a strong pick for a sightseeing-first stay. Plaza de España metro is close by, with Gran Vía shopping and the Royal Palace within easy walking distance. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable rooms and helpful staff; the extensive breakfast buffet is a particular strength. RIU also confirms free guest access to the panoramic 360º Rooftop Bar.
The trade-off is scale rather than unreliable basics: breakfast and rooftop areas can get crowded, so expect a busy city hotel rather than boutique calm. The outdoor pool is small and seasonal, not a reason alone to book. Room views vary, so choose a view category if that matters. We'd skip it for an intimate, quiet retreat, but it's very good for central convenience and a lively rooftop.
