Hotels in Madrida traditional five-star city hotel near Plaza de España
8.1/10
Strong service and breakfast make this a dependable base, rather than a luxury standout.
Meliá Madrid Princesa is a traditional five-star city hotel near Plaza de España: a strong pick for comfortable sightseeing rather than a destination in itself. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds, cleanliness and generous breakfast. Nearby metro access and a walkable route to Gran Vía make it practical for exploring Madrid.
The five-star label needs perspective: some guests find rooms small or dated, and the small indoor pool requires advance booking rather than spontaneous swims. Façade renovation caused repeated noise and scaffolding complaints through August 2026; trade coverage reported completion in September, so confirm any remaining work before booking. We'd choose it for service and convenience, but skip it for a spa-focused break or consistently polished luxury.

Best for: sightseers wanting easy metro access; business travelers; travelers who prioritize breakfast and service
Watch out for: small pool with reservation-only access; some rooms feel dated or compact; confirm completion of façade work
Location: Near Plaza de España, with convenient metro access and Gran Vía within walking distance.
Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise; room size and condition do not consistently meet five-star expectations.
Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are among the most consistent reasons guests recommend it.
Amenities: Generous breakfast, restaurant, bar and 24-hour gym; the small indoor pool needs advance booking.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the rate; early check-in and late checkout can cost extra. Façade completion was reported in September 2026.
