#5 of 6 hotels in Texas Tech & Overton by Axel's take. Texas Tech & Overton is #1 of 6 places to stay in Lubbock, Texas. The best hotels in Texas Tech & Overton, ranked · Where to stay in Lubbock, Texas

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A convenient Texas Tech base, but the rooms need more consistent care. a full-service 4-star conference hotel beside Texas Tech, scored for what it is.

The Overton is a full-service 4-star conference hotel beside Texas Tech, and we'd pick it for campus visits or football weekends rather than a luxury escape. Its walkable location, spacious rooms and Pecan Grill make a practical combination. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise individual staff members, and overall guest ratings remain strong. An outdoor pool and complimentary airport shuttle add useful extras.

The reservation is room consistency. Recent Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe worn furnishings, maintenance problems and uneven housekeeping; Expedia reviews are more positive overall, though dated rooms come up there too. Those shortcomings matter at this level, particularly when game-weekend demand makes the stay feel expensive. Self-parking and breakfast cost extra. It's a good location-first choice, but we'd skip it if freshly updated rooms and reliably polished service are priorities.

  • Best for: Texas Tech campus visits; football weekends; on-site conference attendees

  • Watch out for: Worn rooms and maintenance complaints; Uneven housekeeping; Paid parking and breakfast

  • Location: An easy walk to Texas Tech and football games, with nearby dining.

  • Rooms: Spacious layouts, desks and mini-fridges; recurring reports of tired furnishings and maintenance issues.

  • Amenities: Pecan Grill, coffee shop, outdoor pool, hot tub, gym and complimentary airport shuttle.

  • Fees and surprises: Self-parking, valet and breakfast cost extra; dog fees and incidental holds also apply.
