#8 of 9 hotels in South I-27 & Avenue Q by Axel's take. South I-27 & Avenue Q is #6 of 6 places to stay in Lubbock, Texas. The best hotels in South I-27 & Avenue Q, ranked · Where to stay in Lubbock, Texas

Axel's take: 6.3/10

A practical overnight option, but the new branding hasn't established consistent standards. a basic 2-star interstate hotel, now branded Best Western Lubbock Inn, scored for what it is.

This basic 2-star off I-27 now operates as Best Western Lubbock Inn, rather than Howard Johnson. We'd consider it for a straightforward overnight stop, not a stay where the hotel matters much. Free parking, breakfast and rooms with microwaves and refrigerators cover the essentials. Guests often appreciate the room space and helpful staff, and some September–October 2026 Expedia reviewers describe clean, comfortable stays.

The catch is consistency. Tripadvisor's older reviews repeatedly describe worn rooms and disappointing breakfast, while multiple September 2026 Expedia guests still report inadequate bathroom cleaning or housekeeping. The newer positive feedback is encouraging, but we'd skip it if dependable cleanliness is your priority. The outdoor pool is seasonal, not an indoor facility; confirm availability before relying on it. Expect an incidental card hold, and check current pet terms rather than trusting the old no-pets listing.

  • Best for: road-trippers making a short stop; budget travelers with a car

  • Watch out for: inconsistent cleaning and housekeeping; older reviews describe worn rooms; seasonal outdoor pool

  • Location: Convenient I-27 access; downtown and Texas Tech are driving destinations rather than doorstep attractions.

  • Rooms: Microwaves and refrigerators are confirmed; guests appreciate the space, but condition reports vary.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback ranges from clean and comfortable to inadequately cleaned bathrooms and missed housekeeping.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn praise, although problem handling is not consistently well reviewed.

  • Amenities: Breakfast, parking, Wi-Fi and guest laundry; seasonal outdoor pool, with no gym confirmed by the current brand.

  • Fees and surprises: Now Best Western Lubbock Inn; incidental hold required, with pet charges and an additional pet deposit possible.
