Axel's take: 8.2/10

A comfortable Miraflores base, stronger on space and location than five-star polish. An upscale independent city hotel in central Miraflores, marketed as five-star, scored for what it is.

Sol de Oro is an upscale independent city hotel in Miraflores: officially marketed as five-star, but better approached as a comfortable, practical base than a luxury destination. We'd choose it for the walkable location, generous rooms and comfortable beds. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and cleanliness, with restaurants, Kennedy Park and the coastal promenade within easy reach.

The trade-off is uneven polish. Guest reports across sites mention noisy air-conditioning and maintenance niggles, while breakfast earns both enthusiastic praise and more ordinary verdicts. The hotel advertises a heated rooftop pool, gym and spa, but past facility problems make checking availability sensible if those drive your booking. It's a strong pick for sightseeing and business trips; we'd skip it for a flawless five-star occasion.

• Best for: First-time Lima sightseeing; Travelers who prioritize room space; Business stays in Miraflores

• Watch out for: Noisy air-conditioning in some rooms; Uneven maintenance and luxury polish; Confirm pool and spa availability

• Location: Central Miraflores, with restaurants, Kennedy Park and Larcomar within walking distance; not beachfront.

• Rooms: Room size and beds win praise; some guests report noisy air-conditioning and bathroom maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a consistent problem.

• Service: Helpful reception staff are a recurring strength, though check-in experiences are not uniformly smooth.

• Amenities: The official site advertises a heated rooftop pool, gym, spa and Murano restaurant; verify essential facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion and transfer charges; Expedia lists free self-parking and a possible incidental deposit.
