Hotels in LihueA simple 3-star condo-style hotel on Kauai’s east coast
7.8/10
A practical Kauai base with roomy kitchens, but uneven interiors and limited hotel service.
Plantation Hale Suites is a simple 3-star condo-style hotel, strongest as a practical base for exploring Kauai rather than a resort destination. Separate bedrooms, full kitchens and private lanais give families room to spread out, while Coconut Marketplace puts food and shops close by. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the space, helpful staff and generally clean accommodations; three pools add appeal between outings.
The main compromise is consistency: some suites look dated, and the hotel advertises upgrades only in a limited, individually furnished collection. Expect contactless check-in, an assistance office next door rather than a traditional front desk, and no routine daily housekeeping according to recent Tripadvisor guests. A daily amenity fee applies, and upstairs suites require stairs. It’s a strong pick for self-catering travelers; we’d skip it for polished interiors, full-service pampering or a directly beachfront stay.
Axel's opinion, from the hotel's website and recent guest reviews, scored for what the hotel is. Sources: Hotel website · Tripadvisor · Expedia · Booking.com. Reviewed Oct 10, 2026.

Best for: Families wanting separate living space; Self-catering Kauai explorers; Travelers who prefer apartment-style stays
Watch out for: Uneven updates between suites; Daily amenity fee and limited housekeeping; No elevators or traditional front desk
Location: Near Coconut Marketplace and the shoreline; a useful east-coast base, not directly beachfront.
Rooms: Spacious one-bedroom suites with kitchens and lanais; only a limited collection is newly upgraded.
Cleanliness: Recent guests mostly praise clean accommodations, though the overall record is good rather than exceptional.
Service: Helpful staff earn praise; check-in is contactless, with in-person assistance next door during daytime hours.
Amenities: Three pools, whirlpools, barbecue grills and paid laundry; no airport shuttle.
Fees and surprises: Daily amenity fee includes parking, Wi-Fi and beach gear; recent guests report extra charges for requested housekeeping.
