Hotels in LihueA family-friendly 4-star oceanfront resort near Lihue Airport
7.3/10
A convenient Kauai base with good pools, but renovations still complicate the resort experience.
This is a family-friendly 4-star oceanfront resort, better suited to island exploring and pool days than a polished luxury escape. Its location near Lihue Airport makes a practical base, and Tripadvisor and Expedia guests frequently praise comfortable beds, friendly staff and the grounds. OUTRIGGER now offers renovated Signature rooms, a refreshed lobby and Ocean House by Roy Yamaguchi; choose your room category carefully, since older rooms still draw criticism.
The main catch is the unfinished transformation: September 2026 guests still reported construction, a closed outdoor beach bar and spa treatments in temporary space. Confirm those facilities before booking. Pool maintenance and service recovery also get uneven feedback, while resort fees and separate parking charges weaken value. The beach suits walks and sunrises rather than swimming, and you'll want a car. We'd skip it for a quiet honeymoon or a fully functioning spa retreat.

Best for: families who prioritize pools; travelers exploring Kauai by car; couples booking renovated rooms
Watch out for: ongoing renovation and uncertain facility reopening; beach unsuitable for swimming; resort fees plus paid parking
Location: Convenient for the airport and island drives, but little is walkable beyond the resort.
Rooms: Renovated Signature rooms are the safer choice; older rooms receive condition complaints.
Cleanliness: Room cleanliness generally earns praise, with some housekeeping lapses and recurring pool-maintenance concerns.
Service: Many guests praise warm staff, but front-desk handling of problems is inconsistent.
Amenities: Four pools, a waterslide and Ocean House are draws; September guests reported temporary spa space and a closed beach bar.
Fees and surprises: Daily resort fee and separate parking charges; confirm construction impacts and facility availability.
