#7 of 9 hotels in Victoria Island by Axel's take. Victoria Island is #1 of 6 places to stay in Lagos, Nigeria. The best hotels in Victoria Island, ranked · Where to stay in Lagos, Nigeria

Axel's take: 7.1/10

Welcoming staff and spacious grounds, but tired rooms weaken the five-star promise. An older five-star business hotel and casino on Victoria Island, scored for what it is.

The Federal Palace is an older five-star business hotel and casino on Victoria Island, strongest on setting and hospitality rather than modern luxury. Its broad waterfront grounds offer breathing room, and Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff and breakfast buffet. We'd consider it for a work trip if location and outdoor space matter more than polished interiors.

The five-star label needs managing: recent guests describe dated bathrooms and furnishings, with some reporting housekeeping and plumbing problems alongside many clean, comfortable stays. Crucially, multiple reviews from June through September 2026 report the swimming pool closed for renovation, despite continuing online promotion; reopening could not be verified. Confirm pool access directly before booking. We'd skip it for a pool-led family break or consistently high-end room standards.

  • Best for: Victoria Island business travelers; Travelers who prioritize gardens and waterfront views

  • Watch out for: Pool renovation reported through September 2026; reopening unverified; Dated rooms and bathrooms; Uneven housekeeping and maintenance

  • Location: Victoria Island commercial-district base with spacious waterfront grounds.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but dated furnishings and bathrooms recur in recent feedback.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive ratings, tempered by some recent reports of damp smells and cleaning lapses.

  • Service: Friendly staff are a consistent strength; check-in and problem handling are less reliable.

  • Amenities: Casino, restaurant, gym and courts advertised; recent guests report the swimming pool under renovation.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is listed as free; airport transfers cost extra, and advertised pool access needs direct confirmation.
