#9 of 9 hotels in Victoria Island by Axel's take. Victoria Island is #1 of 6 places to stay in Lagos, Nigeria. The best hotels in Victoria Island, ranked · Where to stay in Lagos, Nigeria
Axel's take: 7.0/10
Go for the restaurants and location, but keep room expectations modest. a mid-range boutique hotel with a lively dining scene on Victoria Island, scored for what it is.
The Blowfish is a mid-range boutique hotel on Victoria Island whose restaurants and poolside atmosphere make a stronger impression than its rooms. It’s a sensible base if you want convenient dining and a sociable evening without leaving the property. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the food, while recent Booking.com reviews also highlight helpful staff and the central location.
The accommodation is less consistent. Despite renovation praise in 2024, guests through 2026 still describe tired interiors, maintenance shortcomings and occasional weak air-conditioning. Cleanliness gets plenty of positive mentions, but repeated housekeeping complaints make it worth checking your room before settling in. Nightlife noise can also undermine sleep. We’d choose it for location and dining rather than polished four-star comfort; light sleepers and travelers expecting reliably fresh rooms should look elsewhere.
-
Best for: travelers prioritizing Victoria Island; restaurant-focused stays; guests who enjoy lively evenings
-
Watch out for: uneven room maintenance and housekeeping; nightlife noise; inconsistent air-conditioning
-
Location: Central Victoria Island base with restaurants and shopping nearby; not a beachfront hotel.
-
Rooms: Condition varies; dated interiors, hard mattresses and air-conditioning faults recur in guest feedback.
-
Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but repeated linen, upholstery and housekeeping complaints temper confidence.
-
Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise; reception problem-solving and replenishing room essentials are less dependable.
-
Amenities: Outdoor pool, several restaurants, bars and free Wi-Fi; dining is the clearest strength.
-
Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm breakfast inclusion, as official room descriptions and Expedia differ.
