Axel's take: 8.1/10

A comfortable Ikeja base with welcoming staff, but unreliable Wi-Fi holds it back. an independent 4-star business hotel in Ikeja GRA, scored for what it is.

Shoregate is an independent 4-star business hotel in Ikeja GRA, and we'd pick it for a comfortable mainland stay rather than polished luxury. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and generally clean rooms. Breakfast also earns plenty of compliments. With a restaurant, outdoor pool, gym and free parking, it covers the essentials well for short business visits and airport stopovers.

The main catch is Wi-Fi: guests describe expiring access codes and device limits, making it a questionable choice for working remotely. Room condition is less consistent than the strongest reviews suggest, with some recent reports of damp smells and maintenance niggles alongside many satisfied repeat visitors. We'd skip it if dependable connectivity or uniformly fresh rooms are non-negotiable.

• Best for: short business visits to Ikeja; airport stopovers; travelers who prioritize helpful staff

• Watch out for: Wi-Fi codes and device limits; occasional damp-smelling rooms; uneven room maintenance

• Location: Ikeja GRA location suits mainland business and airport access; guests appreciate nearby dining.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but some guests report dated televisions and maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive feedback, with a minority of recent reports mentioning damp smells or inconsistent housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, including praise for resolving problems.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, restaurant and bar; breakfast is generally well liked.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; airport transfers cost extra. Children are welcome, contrary to the catalog's adults-only label.
