Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong waterfront business base, though room upkeep falls short of flawless luxury. a five-star waterfront business hotel on Victoria Island, scored for what it is.

Radisson Blu Anchorage is a five-star waterfront business hotel whose strongest assets are its Victoria Island location, lagoon views and welcoming staff. We'd choose it for a work trip with pleasant evenings built in: the waterfront terrace, outdoor pool and well-liked breakfast give it appeal beyond meetings. Recent Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the hospitality, and cleanliness is generally rated well.

The qualification is consistency at five-star expectations. Recent guests mention bathrooms needing attention, while carpet or hallway odors surface on both Booking.com and Expedia. These aren't the dominant experience, but they temper the luxury promise. We'd favor a lagoon-view room over the less appealing city-facing outlooks. It's a strong pick for business and dining; we'd skip it if immaculate finishes matter more than location and staff.

• Best for: business travelers working on Victoria Island; couples wanting lagoon views; travelers prioritizing dining and friendly service

• Watch out for: uneven bathroom upkeep; some reports of musty carpets or hallways; less appealing city-facing views

• Location: Lagoon-front Victoria Island base near business addresses and restaurants; allow for traffic on airport transfers.

• Rooms: Entry rooms are a reasonable 32 square meters; lagoon views are the draw, but some bathrooms need attention.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised, with strong Booking.com cleanliness scores; scattered carpet and hallway odor reports persist.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn consistent praise, although check-in and payment handling occasionally draw complaints.

• Amenities: Outdoor infinity pool, gym, spa, waterfront dining and meeting facilities; treat this as a city hotel, not a beach resort.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; airport transfers and late checkout carry charges.
