#2 of 9 hotels in Surulere by Axel's take. Surulere is #6 of 6 places to stay in Lagos, Nigeria. The best hotels in Surulere, ranked · Where to stay in Lagos, Nigeria

Axel's take: 7.6/10

A practical Surulere base, but check the amenities before booking. a simple 3-star hotel in Surulere’s Alaka Estate, scored for what it is.

De Rigg Place is a simple 3-star hotel in Alaka Estate, best considered for a practical Surulere stay rather than a Lagos holiday resort. We think it’s a good pick if location and straightforward comfort matter most. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms, while Booking.com’s more mixed feedback suggests a decent hotel rather than a consistently polished one.

The biggest catch is the facilities: multiple guests report that the advertised pool and gym are at another property, not inside this hotel. Wi-Fi complaints recur across sites, and reception service gets mixed reports despite the broader praise for staff. Confirm your room category and whether breakfast covers everyone booked. We’d skip it for remote work or a stay built around swimming and workouts.

  • Best for: travelers with plans in Surulere; short, no-frills mainland stays

  • Watch out for: Pool and gym reported off-site; Recurring Wi-Fi complaints; Confirm breakfast coverage

  • Location: Alaka Estate setting near the stadiums; location is a consistent strength in guest feedback.

  • Rooms: Simple air-conditioned rooms; confirm the category, as guests report differences between wings.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, with some contrary reports about bedding and bathrooms.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, but reception and reservation handling are less consistent.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar and free parking listed; guests place the advertised pool and gym off-site.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm breakfast occupancy and facility access directly.
