#9 of 9 hotels in Sandton by Axel's take. Sandton is #2 of 10 places to stay in Johannesburg. The best hotels in Sandton, ranked · Where to stay in Johannesburg

Axel's take: 7.9/10

A comfortable Sandton business base, but renovation disruption tempers the five-star promise. a five-star business and conference hotel in Sandton, formerly the Hilton, scored for what it is.

NH Johannesburg Sandton is a five-star business hotel—the former Hilton—and we'd choose it for practical comfort rather than polished luxury. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff and breakfast. The complimentary mall shuttle is another useful strength, while the outdoor pool and gym round out a solid business base.

The main caveat is the phased refurbishment, including the ballroom and meeting spaces. Summer 2026 Tripadvisor guests reported disruptive construction noise, and management acknowledged the disturbance; confirm the work schedule before booking. Some rooms still draw comments about dated finishes. We'd skip it for a quiet celebration or a stay where flawless five-star polish matters, but it's a good option for work trips if renovation noise won't affect your plans.

Best for: Sandton business travelers; Shopping stays using the mall shuttle; Travelers prioritizing spacious rooms over luxury polish
Watch out for: Phased refurbishment and reported construction noise; Some dated room finishes; Parking and airport transfers cost extra
Location: Convenient for Sandton business and shopping; guests appreciate the free mall shuttle.
Rooms: Spacious and generally comfortable, though some guests still find the interiors dated.
Cleanliness: Strong overall: Booking.com and Expedia both rate cleanliness highly, despite occasional lapses.
Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise, although some construction complaints describe poor follow-up.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, tennis courts and several dining options; breakfast is a recurring guest highlight.
Fees and surprises: Covered parking and airport transfers carry fees; confirm refurbishment hours and affected areas before booking.
