#2 of 2 hotels in Melville & Auckland Park by Axel's take. Melville & Auckland Park is #3 of 10 places to stay in Johannesburg. The best hotels in Melville & Auckland Park, ranked · Where to stay in Johannesburg

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A solid Milpark base with welcoming staff, but quiet rooms aren't guaranteed. a practical 3-star near Johannesburg’s universities and Milpark Hospital, scored for what it is.

Garden Court Milpark is a practical 3-star that makes most sense for university visits, hospital stays and work trips. We'd pick it for straightforward comfort and good value rather than atmosphere. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean, spacious rooms and friendly staff, with breakfast another frequent positive. An outdoor pool, gym and restaurant give it useful extras for this class.

The compromises are worth checking before booking: guests mention traffic noise and noisy air-conditioning, while dinner gets less consistent feedback than breakfast. Don't assume a standard room includes a fridge; the hotel specifically lists one in Deluxe rooms. Parking costs extra, and breakfast depends on your booking. It's a strong functional choice, but we'd skip it if undisturbed sleep or reliably good evening dining tops your list.

  • Best for: university and business visitors; Milpark Hospital visits; families wanting straightforward value

  • Watch out for: traffic and air-conditioning noise; fridges depend on room category; paid parking; breakfast not always included

  • Location: Useful for Wits, UJ and Milpark Hospital, with 44 Stanley nearby.

  • Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; request a quieter room and confirm fridge availability.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff attract repeated praise; restaurant experiences are less consistent.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, free Wi-Fi, restaurant and meeting spaces cover the practical basics.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and airport transfers cost extra; breakfast is included only with qualifying bookings.
