Axel's take: 6.8/10

Go for the central location and South Indian food, not consistently polished rooms. an old-fashioned 3-star heritage hotel in central Abids, scored for what it is.

Taj Mahal Hotel Abids is an old-fashioned 3-star heritage hotel whose strongest arguments are its central shopping location and South Indian food. We'd consider it for a practical city break if character matters more than modern finishes. Tripadvisor's January 2026 guest praises spacious accommodation and prompt service, while late-2025 Expedia guests describe decent, clean rooms and courteous staff.

The catch is uneven upkeep. Other 2025 guests report damp walls, inconsistent housekeeping, bathroom problems and occasional corridor noise; some also report pests. These aren't universal experiences, but they're more than one stray complaint. Booking.com's substantially weaker overall rating reinforces the caution. We'd skip it if reliable cleanliness and maintenance are non-negotiable. Confirm your exact room category and building rather than assuming the heritage-building photos show your accommodation.

• Best for: travelers exploring central Hyderabad; South Indian food enthusiasts; shoppers wanting an Abids base

• Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and room maintenance; room allocation across different buildings; restrictions on guests with local identification

• Location: Central Abids, convenient for shopping, restaurants and transport; location is a consistent strength.

• Rooms: Some guests find rooms spacious and comfortable; others report dampness, dated finishes and plumbing problems.

• Cleanliness: Mixed rather than dependable: recent clean-room praise sits alongside repeated housekeeping complaints and some pest reports.

• Service: Courteous, responsive staff earn praise, but other guests describe repeated requests before problems are addressed.

• Amenities: Dining is the main draw; free Wi-Fi, free parking and air-conditioned rooms cover the practical basics.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a local-resident restriction; confirm eligibility, breakfast inclusion and the listed 10 a.m. checkout before booking.
