Axel's take: 7.5/10

Choose it for effortless sightseeing, not spacious rooms or four-star polish. a practical, older 4-star in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, scored for what it is.

The Kowloon Hotel is an older 4-star whose strongest selling point is convenience. Direct MTR access, nearby shopping and a short walk to the waterfront make it a good base for days spent exploring. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff. We'd pick it for a short, location-first stay rather than a hotel-centered holiday.

The compromises are real: entry-level rooms measure just 18 square meters, and recent reviews describe dated fittings, limited luggage space and occasional air-conditioning or corridor-noise problems. Guests also reported renovation work on occupied floors in August and September 2026; confirm whether your floor is affected before booking. Pool and gym access means paying to use the nearby YMCA, not using facilities inside the hotel. We'd skip it for families needing space or travelers expecting polished four-star comfort.

• Best for: first-time Hong Kong sightseers; couples traveling light; short, transit-focused stays

• Watch out for: small rooms and dated fittings; recent floor-renovation reports; paid, off-site pool and gym

• Location: Direct MTR access and easy walks to shopping, the waterfront and Star Ferry are the standout advantages.

• Rooms: Superior rooms are 18 square meters; recent guests mention cramped luggage space and aging fittings.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across sites, although some recent guests report stained carpets or damp rooms.

• Service: Helpful housekeeping and concierge assistance earn praise; reception warmth and check-in speed vary.

• Amenities: Restaurants, a bar and shopping arcade on site; pool and fitness facilities are at the nearby YMCA for a charge.

• Fees and surprises: Guests repeatedly note no complimentary bottled water or disposable toiletries; ask about renovation disturbance before arrival.
