Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong family base with generous rooms and excellent shopping and rail connections. a large, upscale, family-friendly city hotel above Mong Kok East station, scored for what it is.

Royal Plaza is a large, upscale city hotel that makes particular sense for families. Its Plaza Deluxe Family rooms fit four in two queen beds, while direct access to MOKO mall and Mong Kok East station simplifies meals, shopping and getting around. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful staff. We'd pick it for practical comfort and good value rather than intimate luxury; the substantial outdoor pool and gym strengthen the case.

The trade-offs are a busy lobby and occasional slow check-in. Mong Kok East is not Mong Kok station, so some journeys involve a walk or interchange; this isn't a harbourfront sightseeing base. We'd skip it for boutique atmosphere or waterfront access. Swimmers should also note the announced pool closure from February 1 to March 15, 2027.

• Best for: families sharing one room; Kowloon shopping and food trips; travelers prioritizing space and rail access

• Watch out for: busy lobby and occasional check-in delays; Mong Kok East and Mong Kok are different stations; pool closed February 1–March 15, 2027

• Location: Connected to MOKO mall and Mong Kok East station; convenient for Kowloon, less immediate for the waterfront.

• Rooms: Plaza Deluxe Family rooms offer 33 square metres and two queen beds for up to four guests.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback, supported by high cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Helpful front-desk, concierge and housekeeping teams receive repeated praise; check-in can take time.

• Amenities: A 40-metre outdoor pool, children's pool, gym and sauna; scheduled pool maintenance affects early 2027 stays.

• Fees and surprises: The official FAQ says an incidental deposit applies to stays of seven days or longer, but not shorter stays.
