Axel's take: 8.2/10

A dependable Wan Chai base, with helpful staff and rooms showing their age. a practical 4-star business hotel in Wan Chai, scored for what it is.

Novotel Century is a practical 4-star business hotel whose strongest assets are its Wan Chai location and staff. We'd choose it for sightseeing or convention trips: the MTR is roughly five minutes away, with restaurants and trams close by. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful service, clean rooms and the breakfast spread. The outdoor pool and substantial 24-hour gym give it more appeal than a room-only city base.

The compromise is the accommodation itself. Standard rooms measure 23 square metres, and recurring comments describe compact layouts and dated décor, despite generally positive reports on comfort and housekeeping. This is a strong pick for travelers who prioritize convenience over design; we'd skip it for a spacious, polished luxury stay. Check whether breakfast is included, and bring disposable toiletries rather than assuming they're supplied free.

• Best for: convention and business travelers; sightseers using public transport; travelers who want a proper gym

• Watch out for: compact standard rooms; dated room décor; disposable toiletries not supplied free

• Location: Central Wan Chai, roughly five minutes from the MTR and eight minutes from the convention centre.

• Rooms: Standard rooms are 23 square metres; guests generally find them comfortable but often dated.

• Cleanliness: Recent feedback across sites is predominantly positive about room cleaning and housekeeping.

• Service: Helpful reception, concierge and restaurant staff are recurring strengths.

• Amenities: Outdoor and children's pools; complimentary 24-hour ONYX gym access for guests aged 16 and over.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; disposable toiletries and ONYX recovery facilities cost extra.
