Axel's take: 8.9/10

Stylish Kowloon luxury with standout service, but less space for lounging. a design-led five-star city hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, scored for what it is.

Mondrian Hong Kong is a design-led five-star city hotel, and we'd pick it for attentive service and a well-connected Tsim Sha Tsui base rather than sprawling luxury. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, helpful staff and the location near restaurants, shopping and the MTR. Harbour-view rooms add a compelling reason to book, while Avoca's cocktails and Carna's Italian steakhouse give the hotel personality beyond its bedrooms.

The trade-off is space: entry-level Signature rooms are just 21 square metres, and guests mention limited indoor areas for relaxing outside their rooms. There's no swimming pool, and breakfast is primarily cooked to order rather than a large buffet. It's a strong choice for couples and sightseeing trips; we'd skip it if generous rooms, pool time or grand-hotel lounging are central to your stay.

• Best for: couples on a city break; design-minded travelers; sightseeing and dining in Kowloon

• Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms; no swimming pool; limited indoor lounging space

• Location: Central Tsim Sha Tsui, a short walk from the MTR, with restaurants and shopping close by.

• Rooms: Modern and thoughtfully designed; Signature rooms start at 21 square metres, with harbour views category-dependent.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff receive sustained praise across several review platforms.

• Amenities: Carna steakhouse, Avoca cocktail bar, Roofgarden and a 24-hour gym; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: No resort fee; an incidental deposit is required, and breakfast and valet parking can cost extra.
