A convenient Kowloon base, with helpful staff but tired carpets and weak soundproofing. a practical, older 4-star near Prince Edward MTR, scored for what it is.

Metropark Hotel Mongkok is a practical, older 4-star that makes more sense as a sightseeing base than a hotel to linger in. Prince Edward MTR is a short walk away, with plentiful food and shopping nearby and the airport-bound journey easily arranged. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms. We'd pick it for convenience and straightforward comfort rather than four-star polish.

The main compromises are worn carpets, variable room sizes and weak soundproofing: recent guests mention hearing neighbors and closing doors, and the hotel confirms it supplies earplugs. Bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste; complimentary bottled water is no longer provided either. It's a good fit for travelers spending their days exploring Kowloon, but we'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting fresh interiors and a quiet retreat.

• Best for: sightseers using the MTR; food and market explorers; travelers prioritizing location over polish

• Watch out for: weak soundproofing between rooms; worn carpets and variable room sizes; toothbrushes, toothpaste and bottled water cost extra

• Location: A short walk to Prince Edward MTR, with restaurants, shops and convenient airport-bus access.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but room sizes vary and recent guests repeatedly flag dated finishes and poor sound insulation.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback; worn or stained carpets are the recurring qualification.

• Service: Helpful front-desk and housekeeping staff receive repeated praise.

• Amenities: A gym and on-site dining cover the practical basics rather than making this a destination hotel.

• Fees and surprises: Check-in starts at 3 p.m.; the hotel confirms disposable dental kits and bottled water are not complimentary.
