Axel's take: 8.8/10

Spacious rooms and thoughtful service make this classic luxury hotel a strong Kowloon base. A traditional five-star luxury hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui East, scored for what it is.

Kowloon Shangri-La is a traditional five-star hotel that gets the important things right: generous rooms, dependable housekeeping and genuinely attentive service. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the staff, comfortable beds and harbour views. With the waterfront and East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR close by, it’s a strong pick for exploring Kowloon without sacrificing room space. We’d choose a full harbour-view category if the outlook matters.

The trade-off is age rather than neglect: interiors lean old-fashioned, and some guests think the bathrooms need updating. Recent Expedia reviews also describe crowded breakfasts and slow, busy check-ins. The indoor pool measures just seven by four metres, so this isn’t a pool-focused luxury escape. Choose it for space, service and location; skip it if contemporary design or a tranquil resort atmosphere tops your list.

• Best for: Sightseers wanting a comfortable Kowloon base; Families prioritizing room space; Travelers who prefer traditional luxury

• Watch out for: Old-fashioned interiors and some dated bathrooms; Busy breakfasts and occasional check-in queues; Very small indoor pool

• Location: Close to the harbour promenade, restaurants and East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable; full harbour views depend on the room category.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong housekeeping feedback across the major review sites.

• Service: Attentive staff are a recurring highlight, though peak-time check-in can be slow.

• Amenities: Multiple restaurants, a 24-hour gym, spa treatments and a small indoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and valet parking can cost extra; check inclusions and distinguish full from side harbour views.
