Axel's take: 9.2/10

Hotel ICON delivers generous rooms and standout service, with a little extra walking. a contemporary five-star hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui East, scored for what it is.

Hotel ICON is a contemporary five-star in Tsim Sha Tsui East, and a strong pick for travelers who want luxury without excessive formality. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise attentive staff, spotless rooms and an extensive breakfast. Entry-level rooms measure 36 square metres, with separate showers, soaking tubs and complimentary minibars. The harbour-facing heated outdoor pool and well-equipped gym give it substance beyond the views.

The main compromise is location: Hung Hom MTR is a five-to-ten-minute walk, while Nathan Road and the busiest shopping streets take longer. Choose your view carefully; several categories offer only partial harbour views. Breakfast and club access depend on your booking. We'd skip it if being directly above an MTR station or having a guaranteed sweeping harbour panorama matters more than room space and service.

• Best for: couples seeking relaxed luxury; travelers who value spacious rooms; club-lounge enthusiasts

• Watch out for: a walk to MTR and central shopping streets; partial harbour views in several room categories; breakfast and club access not universally included

• Location: Tsim Sha Tsui East; the hotel specifies five to ten minutes on foot to Hung Hom MTR.

• Rooms: Entry rooms are 36 square metres with separate showers and tubs; check the precise view category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback, supported by high Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are the clearest recurring highlight in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Amenities: Heated outdoor harbour-view pool, 24-hour gym, Angsana Spa and three restaurants; this is not a beach hotel.

• Fees and surprises: Minibars are complimentary; breakfast, club benefits and paid valet parking depend on your arrangements.
