Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong Kowloon base with helpful staff, comfortable rooms and a temporarily closed gym. a 4-star boutique hotel near Jordan MTR, scored for what it is.

Hotel Madera is a 4-star boutique hotel in Jordan, and we'd pick it for exploring Kowloon rather than spending whole days at the hotel. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful reception team, clean rooms and easy access to the MTR, local restaurants and Temple Street. Rooms offer a reasonable amount of space for Hong Kong, while the rooftop Horizonte Lounge adds a worthwhile skyline-view stop.

The main current catch is the gym: it is closed for enhancement works, with Expedia listing renovations through December 31, 2026, subject to change. On-site dining is also limited, so expect to eat around the neighborhood rather than rely on a full-service hotel restaurant. It's a strong pick for independent sightseeing; we'd skip it if a working gym or extensive hotel facilities are essential.

• Best for: couples exploring Kowloon; independent city sightseers; travelers prioritizing MTR access

• Watch out for: gym closed for enhancement works; limited on-site dining; refundable check-in deposit

• Location: A short walk from Jordan MTR, with plentiful restaurants and Temple Street nearby.

• Rooms: Guests often praise the comfort and space; layouts and sizes vary by category.

• Cleanliness: Recent reviews across Tripadvisor and Expedia are predominantly positive about cleanliness.

• Service: Helpful, courteous reception staff are a consistent strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop lounge and breakfast café; gym currently closed for enhancement works.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; a refundable deposit is required, and listings differ on its terms.
