Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong luxury choice for service and harbour views, with construction outside. a classic 5-star waterfront convention hotel in Wan Chai, scored for what it is.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a classic 5-star waterfront convention hotel that still earns its luxury credentials. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise attentive staff, meticulous housekeeping, comfortable rooms and generous breakfasts. We'd choose it for polished service and a harbour-view room rather than cutting-edge design. The 50-metre heated outdoor pool, extensive dining and particularly well-liked Grand Club give it appeal beyond business trips.

The main catch is the waterfront promenade construction outside: the hotel's listing warns that work can be visible and audible, while Booking.com also flags possible room noise. Confirm the outlook and noise exposure before booking, especially if you'll spend afternoons in your room. Breakfast and club access depend on your package. It's a strong pick for convention visitors and travelers who enjoy full-service hotels; we'd skip it for a small, intimate stay or guaranteed daytime quiet.

• Best for: convention visitors; harbour-view luxury stays; travelers who enjoy club lounges

• Watch out for: waterfront promenade construction and possible noise; breakfast and club access not automatically included; large convention-hotel atmosphere

• Location: Connected to the convention centre, with Exhibition Centre MTR and the Star Ferry a short walk away.

• Rooms: Comfortable, generously sized rooms; select a harbour-view category rather than assuming every room has one.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, with particularly strong housekeeping praise.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff earn repeated praise across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: A 50-metre heated outdoor pool, spa, gym, extensive dining and optional Grand Club access.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, valet parking and airport transfers cost extra unless included; external construction may affect rooms.
