Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong roadside choice for clean rooms, friendly staff and a proper breakfast. A no-frills, limited-service hotel off I-91 in Rocky Hill, scored for what it is.

This limited-service Holiday Inn Express in Rocky Hill is a strong pick for a straightforward overnight or Hartford visit by car. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, welcoming staff and the included hot breakfast. Rooms have useful basics—microwaves, mini-fridges and coffeemakers—and free parking makes this a practical base rather than a destination hotel.

The trade-off is a functional suburban setting, not downtown Hartford on your doorstep. Some Tripadvisor guests describe wear and maintenance shortcomings, although newer Expedia feedback is predominantly positive. The outdoor pool is seasonal, and IHG confirms there is no on-site restaurant or complimentary local shuttle. We'd choose it for road trips, work visits and family stopovers; skip it for a car-free city break or a hotel with full-service dining.

• Best for: Road-trip stopovers; Business travelers with a car; Families visiting the Hartford area

• Watch out for: Suburban base rather than a downtown stay; Outdoor pool is seasonal; Some reports of room wear

• Location: Off I-91 at exit 24, with access to Silas Deane Highway restaurants and shops; best with a car.

• Rooms: Practical rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges and coffeemakers; some guests find the condition ready for a refresh.

• Cleanliness: Recent feedback is strongly positive overall, despite occasional housekeeping criticisms.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, fitness center, seasonal outdoor pool and snack market; no on-site restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; pets are not allowed, and cancellation conditions depend on the reservation booked.
